OBD II P0706: Transmission range sensor circuit range/performance

The object of the TRS sensor is help the automatic transmission is to match the engine's optimum power and torque into the driver's desired rate of acceleration by auto-selecting different gear ratios or'rates' to power the wheels. The TRS informs the transmission control module TCM and the powertrain control module that the transmission is in park, reverse gear, neutral, drive, low gear, 2nd gear, etc.. It is attached directly to the manual valve of transmission, so when the shift lever is moved say from park to drive, the TRS communicates this crucial information to the above mentioned cars computer systems.


What Causes the P0706 Code?

Several problems may cause a P0706 code including:

• Dirty or old transmission fluid

• Damaged or defective park / neutral position 

• Damaged or improperly adjusted park position switch

• Damaged or defective transmission sensor

• Defective, Damage , or shorted wiring to the transmission range sensor

• Defective or damage valve body

• Faulty or Damage linkage

• Bad or Damaged electrical connection to the park - neutral switch circuit
