Stop before you Shift

Make sure you are always fully stopping before shifting when you’re shifting from Reverse to Drive. When you’re reversing out of parking spots, be sure to take the time to stop prior shifting right away into Drive. It’s important that you are completely stopped before switching gears, or it can cause avoidable stress on your vehicle and potentially damage the gears in your transmission.

Let’s say you’re stuck in traffic, in the drive through lane, or at a long light; when you see you will be stopped for a while anyway, put your car in Park. This is a simple step that does not affect you too much and will give your transmission a bit of a break.
