About Prosper tx Soure Wikipedia
The first settlers came to farm cotton at the land that was black. Between 1902 and 1850, two settlements existed - Rock Hill was just two miles south of the town that is current and Richland was one mile north. When County Courts ordered tracts of land to be set for sale the development of these communities was expedited in 1876. Dr. A. T. Bryant of McKinney bought what later became the middle of the current town.
Prosper was the stop for the railroad between Sherman and Dallas. When community officials applied for a Post Office with the title"Richland," they had been advised that town name was already taken. Postmaster B.J. Naugle asked for an alternate name and J.C. Slaughter suggested that the name"Prosper," because plants that year was very prosperous.
The City of Prosper was incorporated with a population of 500 and a commission form of government in 1914. U.N. Clary was Mayor and served in that position for another 49 years.
